Year 5 2025 - 2026

Mrs Begum

Welcome to Year Five!

A very warm welcome from the Year Five class team at Mersey Vale Primary School

Ms Ranson - Class Teacher (Monday - Wednesday)

Ms Mather- Class Teacher (Thursday-Friday)

Teaching Assistant - Mrs Qureshi

Please see our 'Meet the teacher' document below to familiarise yourself with the routines in Year Five at Mersey Vale. Regular updates are shared on our Class Dojo page, where you can also send us a message if you require support. Please do check Class Dojo regularly, as it offres a window in to our classroom and is a really good way of gaining ideas to support your child in school and at home.

Curriculum

Attached below is our 'Curriculum Map' document-an annual overview of the topics and curriculum that we shall cover over the next academic year. This half term we are learning all about our solar system in Science and Life in the Alps in Geography. In English we are enjoying the brilliant book 'Hidden Figures' which links nicely to our Science Topic.  Please do look at the curriculum map below for more information.

Homework

Homework is always given on a Wednesday to be returned by the following Wednesday. It is still very important that children read daily at home please. Do fill in their reading record to let us know how they are getting on with their reading at home. Children's spelling tests take place every Thursday.  Spellings are uploaded onto  SpellingFrame where children can practise at home.

In addition to weekly tests there is a list of Year 5/6 words which children work on throughout upper KS2. These are always available to practise on Spelling Frame and can be downloaded here.

Here are some useful links which will support children's learning at home...
